WHAT TO EXPECT
Before Your Appointment
Please eat 2-3 hours before your appointment. Avoid being overly full or on an empty stomach. Wear comfortable clothing.
During Your Appointment
You will be greeted by our receptionist and offered water/tea.
Your practitioner will lead you to a private acupuncture treatment room. Your full health history will be reviewed and discussed. Then you will lie down on a comfortable massage table.
The best acupuncture points for your treatment will be chosen and sterile single-use acupuncture needles inserted. The needles are as thin as a strand of hair. You will feel little to no discomfort upon needle insertion.
Your practitioner will then leave the room, allowing you to rest or nap while listening to relaxing music with the lights dimmed. You will have a buzzer to call us if needed. After 30 minutes, the needles will be removed and you will be on your way, feeling relaxed and refreshed.
Cupping, massage, heat therapy, or moxibustion (a technique used to warm acupuncture points) may also be used. We will offer diet, nutrition, lifestyle, and herbal medicine/supplement recommends as needed.
After Acupuncture Treatment
You will receive a New Patient Folder that contains our recommendations. Your practitioner will also suggest when to come back. Please allow 4-6 visits during a one-month period for best results. Complex cases may require weekly visits for 3-4 months.
Drink plenty of water, be gentle with yourself, and follow given recommendations. It is best to take it easy and avoid heavy exercise directly after acupuncture treatment.

HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK?
Applying acupuncture needles to specific points stimulates blood flow and activates neuro-hormonal pathways. This will reduce inflammation, reduce pain, and promote healing of the surrounding tissue. Thus, acupuncture can be used to heal muscle/tendon injuries and improve the function of weakened systems such as reproductive, digestive, respiratory, and cardiovascular.
Acupuncture treatment also activates the parasympathetic nervous system (in charge of rest and digest). This promotes a relaxed euphoric state and reduces the negative effects of stress. Activating the parasympathetic nervous system helps balance hormones, improve digestion, improve sleep, boost the immune system, relax tight muscles, and allow healing to occur.
