From a young age, Laurel has been passionate about helping others. This passion combined with a love of travel inspired Laurel to spend much of her younger years traveling extensively in Latin America where she worked in local communities facilitating youth programs. While in Costa Rica she was treated with local botanicals and cupping, her first exposure to traditional forms of medicine. But it wasn’t until she moved to San Francisco and became a weekly patient of acupuncture that she fell in love with Chinese Medicine. It was here that her path from patient to practitioner began.
Laurel obtained her bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Cultural Anthropology from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She has a Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Five Branches University in Santa Cruz.
During her training at Five Branches Laurel was part of the first class to participate in an integrative medicine residency at Highland Hospital in Oakland, CA. This experience inspired an interest in the integration of Eastern and Western medicine. To that end, Laurel is dedicated to working collaboratively with Western practitioners to offer patients the most comprehensive care possible.
One of her favorite parts of being an acupuncturist is the opportunity to help people start and grow their families.
HER PATIENTS SAY
I’ve been plagued with chronic neck pain that resonates down my arm for more than 18 months. After thinking surgery would be my only option, I found Laurel and she made magic happen. She helped guide me towards a path of recovery with results greater than expected.
Laurel is one of the best practitioners I have come across. She is caring, pays a lot of attention to patient’s problems, and works on those with her methodological approach that shows her strong fundamentals in the field. Any health practitioner should have patient’s health at top priority but I think in today’s “fast” world, she is one of the few that can truly manage to make it top priority and be effective about it.
Laurel is a fantastic, warm, and patient acupuncturist. She is always in a good mood and is genuinely interested in helping me out with a variety of issues. Everything from PMS, work stress/pain, fertility, injuries, etc, she has been able to help me towards a path of healing.
