What to expect

Before you arrive

  • Eat beforehand. Have a meal about two to three hours before your appointment, so you arrive neither overly full nor on an empty stomach.
  • Dress comfortably. Choose clothing that makes it easy to settle onto the treatment table.
  • Complete your intake forms. Fill out your Jane forms and bring your medication and supplement list, relevant test results, and questions.

During your appointment

Our front desk will welcome you with water, tea, and snacks. In a private treatment room, your practitioner will review your health history, listen to your concerns, and answer your questions.

Treatment uses sterile, single-use acupuncture needles at points selected for you. You’ll rest with heat lamps, dimmed lights, and relaxing music, with a buzzer to call for assistance. Needles are typically retained for 30 minutes.

What else might my treatment include?

Depending on your needs, your practitioner may incorporate cupping, guasha, or moxibustion. Nutrition, lifestyle, herbal medicine, or supplement recommendations may also be discussed.

After your treatment

You’ll receive a treatment plan with recommendations and discuss a follow-up schedule tailored to your needs.

Drink water, take it easy, and avoid heavy exercise immediately afterward.

What if I’m nervous about needles?

Let your practitioner know before treatment begins. We can use our smallest needle type and use fewer points until you feel more comfortable. You can ask questions or request a pause at any time.

How many appointments should I plan for?

Your practitioner will recommend a treatment schedule based on your symptoms and needs. Starting schedules may include:

  • Severe, acute conditions that prevent daily activities: 2 appointments per week for 6 weeks to start.
  • Moderate to severe conditions affecting daily activities and sleep: 1–2 appointments per week for 6 weeks to start.
  • Chronic, long-term conditions: 1–2 appointments per week for 4 weeks, then 1 appointment per week.

Fertility: We suggest weekly visits while trying to conceive and twice-weekly visits during IVF cycles.

Pregnancy: We suggest weekly visits in the first trimester, monthly visits in the second trimester, and weekly visits starting four weeks before your due date.

What if I can’t find a time online?

Add yourself to the waitlist in Jane and contact our office by phone or email. Our team will help you explore available appointments.

Which practitioner should I see?

Our practitioners have different areas of focus. Tell our front desk what brings you in, and we can help you find the right match.
